From „Matzpen“ to the boycott movement: the Israeli left,
internationalism and the solidarity with Palestine

The term “Israeli left” has many meanings in the German left. For some, it still means the colonialism of the Kibbutzim movement, for some it means Zionist-socialist parties such as Hadash or Meretz, and for some it is a contradiction in itself, since “left” negates the term “Israeli”.

In order to understand the real essence of this left a historical-materialist analysis is needed, which we would like to seek together on this evening. For this reason we have invited the activist and former “Matzpen” comrade Liliana Kaczerginski. We would like to share her experiences as part of the Israeli anti-Zionist left, in the internationalist solidarity movement with Palestine up to her involvement with the BDS-campaign and discuss her perspective on the class relations and contradictions of the Israeli society.

Kaczerginski was born in France, raisedin Argentina and immigrated to Jerusalem, where she became a member of the leftist group “Israeli Socialist Organisation”, better known as “Matzpen”. She then left and lived in France and Morocco. Today she is active in different anti-Zionist networks in Spain and in the solidarity work with Palestine.

Um das wahre Wesen dieser Linke zu verstehen, bedarf es einer historisch-materialistischen Analyse, die wir an diesem Abend gerne zusammen anstreben möchten. Dafür haben wir die Aktivistin und ehemalige „Matzpen“-Genossin Liliana Kaczerginski eingeladen. Wir wollen ihre Erfahrungen als Teil der israelischen antizionistischen Linken, in der internationalistischen Solidaritätskampagne mit Palästina bis hin zu ihrem Engagement mit der BDS-Kampagne teilen und ihre Perspektive auf das Klassenverhältnis und die Widersprüche der Israelischen Gesellschaft diskutieren.

Kaczerginski wurde in Frankreich geboren, in Argentinien groß geworden und ist nach Jerusalem immigriert, wo sie Mitglied der linken Gruppe “Israelische Sozialistische Organisation” wurde, besser bekannt als “Matzpen”. Danach lebte sie in Frankreich und Marokko. Heute ist sie in Spanien in verschiedenen antizionistischen Netzwerken und in der Solidaritätsarbeit mit Palästina aktiv.
