Israels attack on Gaza after the October 7, 2023 assault, and the aggressive occupation of the West Bank have reignited the debate on boycotting the country. While the idea of sanctioning Israel initially faced much criticism in the West, this has changed in the face of accusations of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Today, more than ever, governments and civil societies around the world are considering the possibility of using sanctions and boycotts as a means of pressure. (…)

Im letzten Jahr haben wir und viele andere uns gefragt, wie wir dem Genozid und der Apartheid effektiv etwas entgegensetzen können.
Genozid und Apartheid werden finanziert und unterstützt von Unternehmen und Institutionen, die auch hier aktiv sind!

On the Connection between South Africa and BDS

Join us for a talk with Patrick Bond on the roots of the BDS for Palestine in the struggle against the South African Apartheid!

Patrick Bond is a political economist, environmentalist and activist who worked as an adviser to the African National Congress (ANC) and of the Palestinian BDS campaign. He was active in Germany and organized a successful financial boycott against the South African apartheid in Berlin. We will discuss with Patrick the past and present complicity of Germany with settler colonial projects, the effectivity of boycott campaigns and the practical aspects of organizing them in Germany.

On Academic Resposibility – A panel discussion and presentation of the FU BDS Report

Join us to discuss FU’s breaches of International Law and ethical standards through its cooperations with Israeli universities which are fuelling Apartheid and Occupation.

We will first present our comprehensive report on why cutting ties with Israeli institutions is necessary to end the FU’s complicity in Genocide, Apartheid and Occupation and subsequently discuss Academic Boycott as a possible means of introducing just change.

Among the speakers in our discussion will be Dr. and assistant professor Laia Haurie of Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya; Dr. Shir Hever, political scientist and military embargo coordinator for the Boycott National Committee; a representative of The European Legal Support Center and Luis Cortés, one of the authors of the Freie Universität BDS Report.

Zwei US-Präsidentschaftskandidat*innen, die beide die Rechte der Palästinenser*innen nur zögernd berücksichtigen, oder gar feindselig ihnen gegenüber sind. Eine deutsche politische Diskurslandschaft, in der die „Mitte“ so extrem geworden ist, dass Aufrufe zur Beendigung eines Völkermordes als radikal angesehen werden. Unabhängig davon, wer am 5. You Are Now Entering Free Gaza. Palestine and Ireland – a shared struggle

For this event we are bringing together activists and historians to explore the parallels between Irish and Palestinian history and resistance. We’ll explore what lessons Ireland’s struggle, as well as South Africa’s fight against apartheid, can offer Palestinians, with a focus on looking to the future. How do grassroots movements, global solidarity, and cultural survival keep hope alive in the face of displacement, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing?

The discussion will be accompanied by a short compilation of documentary footage.

The speakers – Irish-South African academic and activist Patrick Bond, and representatives of the Irish Bloc will be addressing the following subjects:

The power of grassroots resistance
International solidarity and boycotts
Non-violent resistance and diplomacy
The role of international law
Cultural identity
Lessons from past struggles.

Aus dem Aufruf zum Palästina-Block auf dem marx is‘ muss – Kongress 2022:

Der Mai 2021 ging als Teil eines neuen Aufbruchs in die Geschichte Palästinas ein. Entgegen aller Mutmaßungen bewiesen die Palästinenser*innen mit ihrem grenzenüberwindenden, kollektiven Widerstand, dass sie ihren Befreiungskampf auch nach über einem halben Jahrhundert nicht aufgeben werden.

Die weltweit einflussreichste Solidaritätsbewegung mit Palästina der letzten Jahre löst in Deutschland viel Aufregung und Diskussion aus. Palästinasolidarität ist lauter und selbstsicherer geworden. Aber auch die medialen Angriffe und Repressionen des deutschen Staates bis hin zu Demoverboten werden schriller und autoritärer.

Deshalb soll sich dieses Jahr erstmalig ein eigener Palästina-Themenblock des Kongresses den drängenden Fraagen widmen: Wie steht es um die Lage und Perspektiven vor Ort? Mit welchen besonderen Hürden ist die Palästina-Bewegung in Deutschland konfrontiert und wie überwinden wir sie?
